Business Case for Interactive Media - Competitive and Innovative
Washington State is a global leader in Interactive Media development.
For many years, Washington-based companies have led the way in game development. Starting as far back as Cyan's PC games of the nineties Myst and Riven, to Valve's Half Life, and Bungie's Halo trilogy, our history is strong. With Microsoft, Nintendo, and RealNetworks in Seattle's backyard along with over 150 noteworthy game-technology companies, the Puget Sound region can claim to be one of the top game-development centers in the world.

Over the years, the Puget Sound area has become a who's who in the industry with companies such as Monolith, Warner Bros. Interactive, Gas Powered Games, and Sony Online Entertainment just to name a few. Our local industry is strong and they work very well together. Over the last few years, an industry task force gathered and collaborated with public and private sector leaders to develop the Washington Interactive Media Program - the first of its kind in the nation. This program was designed to promote, nurture, and grow the video game industry in our area. The objectives are to promote the region as a global center for game development; to educate local government and community about the strength of this industry; to work with educational institutions to ensure that our workforce is prepared for the jobs that our companies are creating; to help with recruiting of talent; and to work with financial entities to educate about this industry's unique business model. This website is one of the many outcomes of the task force. I must give thanks to DigiPen Institute of Technology and Evergreen Events for assisting us in this project.
